As a student at the Art Academy Arnhem, artist Sophie Bekkering studied architerural design. But found the boundaries of her studies to be too restrictive. She made the switch to the liberal arts, painting in particular, and never looked back. In the last 30 years she has developed her art style in painting, drawing and ceramics, often with an expressive en energenic stye and colorpalet.
Nature, and especially trees and rocks, are a central theme in the works of Sophie Bekkering. "Trees have been an interest of mine as long that I can remember. They're a central theme in my work. Trees are survivors, figuratively and literally unto the tree line. The resilience and timelessness of the natural processes, can place the destructive nature of man in perspective."
