Curse of the Chosen Volume 2

When the Matriarch of the realm dies, the powerful sorceress Niope orders a series of trials to determine the rightful successor. A select group of notables, knights, mages, and commoners will participate whether they wish to or not. The participants gradually discover that the trials are rigged and that the sorceress is using all her power to manipulate the game to her advantage. Although her chances seem slim, it is the young Io who appears able to withstand the sorceress’s death magic…

‘Curse of the Chosen Volume 2’ is the final installment of the Geis trilogy by English illustrator and comic artist Alexis Deacon. The series is a blend of fantasy, folklore, and legends, set in a realm where (death) magic and the sword go hand in hand. With an expressive style, the comic artist creates a magical world that is as raw as it is imaginative.

As the comic creator himself indicates, he is inspired by the early work of Hayao Miyazaki, particularly ‘Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind’ and ‘Shuna’s Journey’. And that influence can be found in the muted color scheme, complex characters, and raw, realistic narrative. Curse of the Chosen is certainly not a children's series and can be dark at times. But for fans of fantasy and intrigue, this series is a must-have.
