Charles Burns
This is the comfort zone of American underground cartoonist Charles Burns, known for ‘Black Hole’, ‘Last Look’, and most recently ‘Deadalus’. Burns debuted as an illustrator in the early 80s in various fanzines. His breakthrough as a comic artist came with publications in the avant-garde comics magazine RAW. His first two books, ‘Big Baby’ and ‘Hard-Boiled Defective Stories’, were also published through this publisher. Burns gained international acclaim with the ‘Black Hole’ series, which appeared from 1993 to 2004. More recently, there is the trilogy ‘X'ed Out’, ‘The Hive’, and ‘Sugar Skull’, and the ‘Dédales’ series, which he began in 2001. In addition to his work as a comic artist, Burns has focused more on his illustration work in recent years.
