Dogtangle - Max Huffman
Dogtangle - Max Huffman – (136 pages, English, hardcover, published by Fantagraphics)
Dogtangle
A satirical comedy about an ambitious power couple in a gloomy corporate landscape who defy God and nature to create a modern Cerberus for their time.
Dogtangle begins with a gathering at a Taco Bell, tucked away in the dull corporate environment of Business Park. A man, who blusters to anyone willing to listen about the ills of current zoning plans, meets a woman who works in pharmaceutical marketing. They start a relationship. They get married. From their marriage emerges the idea of the Hypermutt: a multi-headed mass of dogs that absorbs every new dog it encounters.
This debut graphic novel by Chicago cartoonist Max Huffman is alternately a rich satirical fable, a black comedy about the business world, and a stylistic masterpiece that combines elements of abstraction, Cubism, Modernism, and visual gags. Dogtangle is one of the most visually striking and funny graphic novels of recent times, and is also steeped in a deep distrust of corporate hegemony.
