The Well – Jon Allen – (720 pages, English, softcover, published by Top Shelf Productions)
The Well
24-year-old Veronika is caught between a rock and a hard place; living with her parents is unbearable, but living with her boyfriend isn't a solution either. The only bright spot is that she has just landed a new job and, with some time, might have enough money for a place of her own. The company makes energy drinks, but the ingredients remain somewhat vague. When Veronika gets lost in a deserted part of the company, she makes a shocking discovery…
Jon Allen
‘The Well’ is the brainchild of American comic book artist Jon Allen, who previously created ‘Ohio is For Sale’ and ‘The Lonesome Era’. His endearing art style is deceptive, characters and dialogue are mature and grounded, and the plot of ‘The Well’ is a mix of film noir, sci-fi, and 1950s pulp horror. A sort of Scott Pilgrim Universe, but with a dark twist. It is primarily the characters that bring ‘The Well’ to life, with witty dialogue and the ‘slice-of-life’ undertone.
"Jon Allen's comics are funny and wholehearted, with simplified and intelligent brushwork." — Noah Van Sciver
"Allen's assured cartooning blends naturalistic dialogue with charming cartoon animals to create a story that's funny, poignant and deeply relatable." — Sophie Goldstein
