Blankets
With the autobiographical graphic novel 'Blankets' (2003), artist/author Craig Thompson instantly became a rising star in the American comic world. In the book, Thompson looks back on various periods of his childhood and adolescence: growing up in a devout Christian family, his relationship with his younger brother, his first love, sex, and coming of age. Running through it all is his doubts about his relationship with God and religion. Thompson himself stated that he wrote the book to explain to his parents why he is no longer a Christian.
'Blankets' was very well received and received numerous awards, including being named the best graphic novel of 2003 by Times Magazine and receiving the 2004 Eisner Award for Best Graphic Album and Best Writer/Artist.
